Incight Announces Fundraising Dinner, the Harvest Gala
Second Annual Event to Feature Keynote Speaker April Holmes, US Paralympic Champ
Portland, OR, September 23, 2008 – Incight announces its second annual fundraising celebration, the Harvest Gala, Thursday, October 2, 2008 at 6:30 pm. The benefit dinner and awards ceremony, featuring keynote speaker Nike athlete April Holmes, will be held at the Governor Hotel’s Heritage ballroom.
A record-holding paralympic athlete who lost her left leg in 2001, Holmes is a Nike “First Woman of Jordan Brand” athlete and MBA graduate. She is also founder of the April Holmes Foundation, which assists people with physical and developmental disabilities as they affect their everyday lives.
Incight, founded in 2002 by Scott Hatley and Vail Horton, CEO of Portland-based KEEN Mobility, seeks to provide the tools and skills for those with disabilities to advance their education, seek and obtain employment, and become active participants in their communities. The benefit dinner is the primary source of funding to provide educational opportunities for disable citizens to become active members of the community.
“The harvest gala is a magical event for Incight. It helps us bring a message of hope, inspiration and success from our clients to the community. This support has been life changing.”
Incight began as a dream between Hatley, a classmate to Horton during graduate school at the University of Portland. Recognizing that only 16% of disabled Americans possess advanced degrees and 1 in 5 have a full time job, they collaborated on the creation of a program that would, ultimately, affect this statistic. Since its inception, Incight has provided more than $1,200,000 in
scholarships and program support.
Some of the biggest challenges facing those with disabilities, especially high school youth, involve being prone to self-limitation through feelings of social isolation, attitudes lacking self confidence and self-esteem, and by believing their fullest potential is not possible because of disability. Incight exists to abolish this mentality by opening doors to opportunity.
For additional information on Incight, or to attend the benefit, contact Scott Hatley or visit www.incight.org.
ABOUT INCIGHT: The name Incight is a hybrid of the word Incite, to spark a passion, and Insight, to possess intimate knowledge of a topic or situation. Through self-empowerment Incight seeks to continuously provide the tools and skills for those with disabilities to advance their education, seek and obtain employment, and become active participants in their communities. Through all this, Incight’s main goal is achieved; to create contributing members of society who view life without any thought of limitations.
